About

The Work-in-Progress conference is now in its seventh year and in the past has hosted speakers from all fields in the Humanities and Social Sciences including literature, cultural studies, history, philosophy, Australian studies, sociology, psychology, education, religious studies, media studies, art history, and politics. WIP is open to all postgraduate students and has in recent years attracted presenters from all over Australia.

WIP 2002 will be on the theme of progress in all its ambiguous senses. The call for papers closes at the end of July 2002. Follow the links for details about keynote speakers and special panels, or subscribe to our mailing list to be kept up to date.

There are a number of events running in conjunction with the WIP conference this year.

This year, the conference is overlapping with a research colloquium hosted by the Australian and New Zealand Shakespeare Association and the Australian Drama Studies Centre at The University of Queensland, Shakespeare in the Twenty-First Century: Work in Progress.

A one-day Postgraduate Workshop on Linguistics and Language Processing is being run by the Linguistics Program at the University of Queensland with the support of The Center for Research in Language Processing and Linguistics (CRLPL). The principal aim of the workshop is to provide a congenial environment for postgraduate researchers presenting current work in progress. The workshop will run in conjunction with the WIP Conference, and attendees are encouraged to stay for the In Progress Conference.

A special session on postgraduate supervision, sponsored by the School of English, Media Studies and Art History, and the Faculty of Arts, will be held on Friday afternoon, 4 October. This session will be hosted by Dr Gina Mercer and Dr Alison Bartlett. Details here.

Monday 7 October 5:30pm Women in Media and Cultural Studies: Panel discussion about current and future directions for women and gender-influenced critique in cultural and media studies and related sub-disciplines - is it really still a predominantly blokey discipline?
