Method

The "flint’s transcription" (\ft) field for each Yanyula entry is based, in general, on Flint’s pronunciation on the audio recording, as he repeats words and sentences after the informant. This includes the spelling of the Yanyula words, the marking of stress, and the division of utterances into words. Where Flint’s transcription differs from his pronunciation in some way, the version in his transcription is given in the "comments on flint’s transcription" (\ncft) field.

An English gloss or free translation of an elicitation item in Flint’s transcript often corresponds to several phrases or words on the tape. This occurs because Flint often uses several phrases to clarify an English meaning for an informant. The "flint’s gloss" (\fg) and "flint’s free translation" (\fft) fields for each Yanyula entry are based primarily on what Flint says on the recording. If the recording is more detailed than the written gloss, Flint’s written gloss is recorded in the "comments on flint’s gloss" (\ncfg) field.

The spelling and word-divisions in the "analysis" (\na) field of each entry have been determined with reference to a number of factors: Flint’s written transcription, Flint’s pronunciation as he repeats words, and the spelling and word-analyses given in other sources.

The morpheme-by-morpheme gloss in the "gloss" (\ng) field of each entry draws on the analyses given in other sources and also on Flint’s gloss (\fg).
